American teenage tennis star Melanie Oudin is coming to Hobart next January to contest the Moorilla Hobart International.

Oudin, who is currently ranked No.49 in the world, captured the attention of the tennis world when she knocked out an array of seeded players at both Wimbledon and the US Open this year.

“Melanie has shown that she thrives under pressure and I am looking forward to seeing her compete against some of the world’s top women here in Hobart,” Michael Roberts, Moorilla Hobart International Tournament Director, said.

“Her leaping forehand, blinding foot speed and an assortment of backhand weaponry will thrill fans and she is certain to be an entertaining addition to the Moorilla Hobart International line up.”

After winning through qualifying at Wimbledon, Oudin reached the fourth round of the Grand Slam defeating No.29 seed Sybille Bammer (AUT), Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) and former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic (SRB) on the way.

At her home Grand Slam (US Open) she defeated Anastasia Pavlychenkova (RUS), No.4 seed Elena Dementieva (RUS), former world No.1 Maria Sharapova (RUS) and No.13 seed Nadia Petrova, before succumbing to No.9 seed Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) in the quarterfinals.

Other highlights in 2009 came when she represented the United States in Fed Cup and was the inaugural winner of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Heart Award at the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final in Reggio Calabria in November.

She has also won USD$50,000 events in Raleigh NC and Indian Harbour Beach Florida on the ITF circuit.
