Former champion Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) has been upset in the first round by world No.43 Sara Errani (ITA) on the opening day of the 2011 Moorilla Hobart International.

After winning the first set in a tiebreak, Errani produced a dominant display in the second set to defeat the 2007 champion, 7-6(5) 6-3 in 1 hour and 45 minutes.

“It’s hard this time of year because there aren’t many matches and you are physically not perfect,” Errani said.

“It was a difficult match today, [Anna] played well and it was very windy so I’m happy to have won this first match.”

In other first round results earlier today, Errani’s double partner Roberta Vinci (ITA) defeated fellow Italian Romina Oprandi while Ayumi Morita (JPN) defeated Akgul Amanmuradova (UZB) in a tough three-set match.

Moorilla Hobart International 2011 series packages and single sessions are on sale now, with ticket prices starting from $9.90.
