A world-class field, headlined by 2011 US Open champ Sam Stosur and former world No.1Venus Williams, will play at Hobart International 2014.

Defending champion Elena Vesnina of Russia will return, as well as two other Hobart winners – Mona Barthel (2012) and Zheng Jie (2005).

Joining the former champions will be Wimbledon 2013 semifinalist Kirsten Flipkens, Brisbane 2013 finalist Anastasia PavlyuchenkovaFlavia Pennetta and British No.1 Laura Robson.

Hobart International Tournament Director Mark Handley says the 2014 field is one of the strongest in the tournament’s history.

“We have two top 20 players, a former world No.1, three past Hobart champions and eight national number No.1s heading to Tasmania this summer,” Handley said.

“The 2014 field boasts eight Grand Slam singles titles and 91 career WTA singles titles. It will be exciting to see how this spectacular line-up unfolds,” Handley continued.

Tennis fans will also get to see Australia’s No.1 Sam Stosur and two potential Russian opponents, Vesnina and Pavlyuchenkova, in action before the February Australia v Russia Fed Cup tie at Domain Tennis Centre, Hobart.
