The younger sister of Alona, Kateryna Bondarenko had her best season to date in 2009. She started with a quarterfinal appearance at Prague defeating her sister Alona along the way. Bondarenko followed this up by becoming the first Ukrainian women to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal at the US Open, defeating Ana Ivanovic en route but falling to Belgian Yanina Wickmayer. Bondarenko made her top 30 debut on 5 October 2009 and teamed up with Alona to claim her third tour doubles title at Prague. In 2009 she also pulled off wins over Venus Williams and Elena Dementieva. |
