Wishink bows out of Moorilla Hobart International

9 January 2009, by Hobart International Tennis

Tasmania’s Anna Wishink put up a valiant three set fight against world No.137 Betina Jozami (ARG) in the first round of qualifying for the Moorilla Hobart International today.

Wishink, who was hoping to make her debut appearance in the main draw of her home event, started strongly taking the first set 6-3 before Jozami fought back to take the second set in a tiebreak.

After going down a break mid-way into the third set Wishink was unable to get back into the game, eventually losing 6-3 6-7(5) 6-4.

Fellow Australian Jelena Dokic was forced to withdraw from the qualifying event this morning due to achilles tendonitis in her right foot.

Shannon Golds match against No.1 seed and world No.30 Francesca Schiavone is tied at 4-4 in the first set and Marija Mirkovic will have to wait until tomorrow for her match against [75] Edina Gallovits.
