Razzano too strong for Pironkova

Tsvetana Pironkova bundled out No.2 seed Patty Schnyder on the opening day of the tournament but was unable to capitalise on the important points today going down in straight sets to Virginie Razzano.

“I played very well today, I am happy to win because it’s good to play some matches before Melbourne,” Razzano said.

“I think I can win this tournament but I will take one match at a time… “

Razzano will meet the winner of tonight’s match between Petra Kvitova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

In the doubles, top seeds Alona Bondarenko and Kateryna Bondarenko had a straight sets win over Ekaterina Dzehalevich and Tatiana Poutchek.

The unseeded pairing of Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta were too strong for Natalie Grandin and Abigail Spears also winning in straight sets.
