Draw ensures some top matches

Australians Jessica Moore (WA), Sally Peers (VIC) and Olivia Rogowska (VIC) have all drawn unseeded opponents in the first round of the Moorilla Hobart International.

Moore, who hit with top seed and world No.13 Flavia Pennetta (ITA) at the Domain Tennis Centre this afternoon, will face [49] Olga Govortsova from Belarus.

Seventeen year old Peers, who is making her WTA Tour debut in Hobart, will match up against world No.44 Petra Kvitova from Czech Republic. Peers will be the only Australian in singles action on day one tomorrow (Sunday 11 January).

Rogowska, who won her first ITF senior event and reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Play-off in December, will be hoping her good form continues when she faces Russian [45] Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Tournament No.2 seed Patty Schnyder (SUI) is up against Tsvetana Pironkova (BUL).

Top seed Flavia Pennetta is not in action tomorrow and has drawn Israel’s [38] Shahar Peer.

“There are some excellent first round match ups that really highlight the strength of the field we have this year,” Moorilla Hobart International Tournament Director Michael Roberts, said.

“The match between Pennetta and Peer has the potential to be one of the matches of the tournament.

“Peers only missed out on being seeded by a couple of spots so the competition between the two women is going to be tight,” Roberts said.

Moore and Rogowska will team up in the doubles, meeting Ekaterina Dzehalevich (BLR) and Tatiana Poutchek (BLR) in the first round.

Plays kicks off at 10:00 am tomorrow with the final qualifying matches. Main draw action will start after 12:00 pm.
