Fans pitch in on Centre Court

While rain washed out play on day four at the Moorilla Hobart International, at least fans saw some action, or specifically, were a part of the action.

There was a small period where the rain had stopped and in order to get things moving quickly, court announcer Rob Fairs called on the crowd to grab towels and help dry the court.

Plenty of spectators came from the stands to help out, in a scene rarely seen in a WTA Tour Event.

Even players pitched in with Australian Jarmila Groth getting in on the action.

In the space of 20 minutes, the court was dry and ready for play – the fans even had a group photo taken.

Unfortunately as soon as the players were about to walk onto court, the rain started again and washed out the night session.

Rain has interrupted play today but organisers are hopeful of catching up this afternoon with the forecast looking brighter.
