Top seed bows out of quarterfinals

Top seed Marion Bartoli (FRA) has been upset by Czech starlet Klara Zakopalova in the quarterfinals of the Moorilla Hobart International.

After winning her second round match earlier in the day, Zakopalova produced a stunning display in the quarterfinals to defeat the world No.17, 6-4 6-2 in 1 hour and 18 minutes.

“I’m very satisfied with the game I played today,” Zakopalova said.

“We are used to it [playing two matches in a day]…so I was prepared for it.”

Bartoli was pleased with her match but praised the determination of her opponent in a tough quarterfinal.

“She played unbelievable to be honest. I mean I’m used to playing against top 10 players, and they barely can play like that,” Bartoli said.

“But overall I’m happy with my performance. I tried to do my best tonight and won two good matches against Safina and Vesnina [in the first and second round].

“I feel like I’ve played the best tennis of my career so far. So it’s good for me now to have a couple of days off before the Australian Open starts.”

Zakopalova will meet Jarmila Groth (AUS) in the semifinals.
